How to Join

Recruitment and Intake

Joining a sorority or fraternity is often referred to as a “mutual selection process.” While potential new members are trying to determine which of the 29 organizations is the best fit for them, the sororities and fraternities are trying to identify the individuals who best align with their organization’s values. The Office of Sorority & Fraternity Life (SFL) will provide interested students with opportunities to meet and greet with our 29 chapters throughout the year prior to council recruitment and intake. Each of our four council’s host a different recruitment experience for you to participate in.

Our fraternity and sorority community rides itself in our four community values which include: Scholarship, Leadership, Service & Philanthropy, and Brother/Sister/Siblinghood. That being said, all chapters have requirements that look for these characteristics in their potential new members/candidates. Basic eligibility requirements by SFL include:

  • A minimum grade point average of  2.5 GPA
  • A minimum enrollment of 12 credit hours for the semester you are interested in joining

Additional requirements to keep in mind are that potential new members/candidates may  be required to submit letters of recommendation, leadership resumes, and attend interviews as part of the process. Each chapter hosts an variety of these additional requires for membership so make sure to ask these questions from the chapter representatives you meet. Lastly, this process also involves a time and financial commitment to the organization that also varies by chapter. Make sure to research this information as well as you are considering membership.

If you are interested in more detailed information please read about opportunities to join from the councils below and/or reach out to our office.
