Latin American Studies Undergraduate Certificate

The Latin American Studies Certificate promotes a greater understanding of Latin America through academic coursework and language acquisition. The certificate program is intended to complement students' current studies through a combination of interdisciplinary courses with core Latin America content and language studies. The certificate offers students critical knowledge of Latin American history, current issues, and culture.

Learn With Interdisciplinary Faculty

At Ohio University nearly 25 faculty members from 10 disciplines are dedicated Latin American scholars. They conduct field work in Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Honduras, and throughout Latin America, producing an impressive list of academic publications. The faculty’s research and experience in the region create an atmosphere that challenges students to understand Latin America within a context of regional and global change. 

Eligibility and Required Coursework

The Latin American Studies Certificate is open to students from any major. The program requires students maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher in certificate courses and complete two years of language study. For a complete list of program requirements, please view the course catalog.

Opportunities Upon Completion

The Latin American Studies Certificate prepares its students for jobs in government, development, and aid agencies, as well as in private and public academic institutions and organizations.
